Careers In Sports
In partnership with Northwest Collegiate Summer League.
Careers In Sports has partnered with Northwest Collegiate Summer League, to offer a unique opportunity to young people of color, by providing them with paid summer internships, introducing them to various Careers In Sports. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a $500 stipend.
The program is an eight (8) week commitment beginning June 22 – August 12, 2015. Work shifts are Mondays and Wednesdays 5:45 pm-10:00 pm (North Seattle Community College Gym). (Additional hours may be added for guest speakers and field trips.)
Participants will get hands-on experience, working on Game Day Events, and learning Game Day Operations with NWCSL. The NWCSL is the only NCAA Summer League sanctioned in the Northwest and was established to provide a safe and friendly environment for northwest college players (Men and Women) to play competitively during the offseason. Many local schools have supported them over the years: Washington, Seattle U, Western, Skagit, UPS, SPU, etc. You will frequently see local NBA stars Jamal Crawford, Brandon Roy, Nate Robinson, and many others in attendance. Over the years, the NWCSL has such past participants and former University of Washington players Isaiah Thomas, Tony Wroten, Terrance Ross, Quincy Poindexter just to name a few.
During games, participants will learn Game Day Operations. Their duties will include, but not limited to Announcing Games, Assisting Players and Teams, Officials, Guest Services, Game Day Setup, Stats, Clock and Scoreboard Operations, Digital Media (Conduct Video and Written Interviews, Post content). Upon completion participants will have obtained qualifications, in the field of Game Day Ops. Each will have gained a greater knowledge and awareness of the many careers, they can pursue in The Sporting Industry.
